I owned a Nokia with the Talk60 talking software for several years. All of the functions were accessible for blind users with synthesized speech. Unfortunately, none of the phones supporting the Talk60 program had buttons accessible by a blind person. Therefore, the Talk60 program was almost worthless. I managed to make it work by having braille bumps placed on all of the buttons but that was even difficult as the keys were not arranged in the same way as a standard phone keypad.
I used Tmobile for the Nokia so when the Owaysis became available, I cancelled my Tmobile account and waited 90 days to open a new account with Tmobile so I could get the Owaysis at the discount price.
I have absolutely no difficulty with using either the standard voice functions or text messaging functions on the Owaysis. I have never needed sighted help to use any of the functions, including programming names, addresses and phone numbers for more than a hundred people. Finding and calling is almost as easy as speed dial.
I did find a problem with text messaging. There is no way of doing phonetic spelling on incoming text messaging when you don't understand individual letters. This is important only when an important text message is received providing, for example, the password from Tmobile. I resolved this by forwarding the text message to my wife's phone where she was able to read the password visually.
The British accent is a bit difficult to understand, but with a bit of practice it is quite understandable.
There is simply noting comparable on the market, and today I would pay the full price for the Owaysis if I had to. However, I believe all phone companies should subsidize the Owaysis as it is literally the only accessible phone on the market for blind persons.
